The Church recognizes, with deep concern, the plight of Christian families around the world where marriage and family life are constantly under threat and their values undermined. The Church reaffirms its teachings on the sacredness of marriage, the family as a sanctuary of life and the cradle for transmitting the faith, and for the education and upbringing of children. In its mission of evangelizing the family, the Church reinforces its efforts to strengthen family life and deepen in all, the understanding of the fundamental value of the family and life, both for the Church and the wider society: Be it resolved that opportunities be provided for all Catholics to be educated in the Social Teachings of the Church so as to help them bridge the gap between Gospel values and daily living.
Be it resolved that the Church, through its leaders and competent spokespersons, speak out clearly, consistently and in a timely manner on social, political and economic issues that threaten and undermine the rightful place of the family in society.
Be it resolved that as part of the Church’s pastoral initiatives for Family and Life, a Secretariat be established with full-time personnel to ensure that Family Life promotion and ministry are effectively pursued.
Be it resolved that every Parish implement programmes which include a spiritual dimension and support for families in areas such as Parenting, Sex Education, Marriage Counselling and Family Bonding in collaboration with the Secretariat for Family and Life.
Be it resolved that the Church invest in support systems such as shelters for abused children and battered persons, safe places for women, support groups for distressed families and individuals confronted by life threatening issues and for the pastoral care and rehabilitation for ex-offenders.
Be it resolved that all Catholics – clergy, religious and laity – witness clearly and consistently on the intrinsic value of human life and the dignity of the human person; and be a unified voice in support of the differently-abled and the elderly, and against the culture of death which includes abortion, euthanasia, artificial contraception and capital punishment.
