In fidelity to its mission to evangelize, the Church commits itself to bringing all peoples to the fullness of life in Christ through dynamic missionary discipleship and personal and pastoral conversion.
Be it resolved that the Church pursue new ways of developing Catholic identity built upon a fuller and deeper understanding of the Word of God and apostolic tradition, impelling its practicing members to actively participate in the Church’s mission of evangelization especially to those who have fallen away. Every effort will be made to reach out to men both in and out of the Church.
Be it resolved that the Church adopt new approaches for forming missionary disciples that go beyond sacramental catechesis to lifelong faith formation, that will renew a fervour and love for the Word of God, the celebration of Mass (particularly on Sundays and on Holy Days of Obligation), Eucharistic Adoration, devotion to our Blessed Mother, a life of constant conversion, and the sacramental life of the Church, particularly the sacrament of reconciliation. Be it resolved that the Church exercise its preferential option for the poor through its social action initiatives, so that through exercising the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy, it will provide for the educational, spiritual and physical needs of those most vulnerable and needy in our parishes and in the wider society.
Be it resolved that the call to the Permanent Mission of the Church be part of the catechesis at all levels of the Church, so that on a daily basis, all can take on the challenges of living out the faith as disciples of Jesus Christ. Cognisant of the fact that “Only a priest in love with the Lord can renew a parish” (Aparecida doc. #201); be it further resolved that the ongoing spiritual enrichment and formation of our Clergy be integral parts of the pastoral plan and life of the Archdiocese.
Be it resolved that the Catholic Identity of our schools as centres of evangelization and knowledge-based “centres of excellence” be preserved and strengthened. The schools must become communities of faith in which the Word of God, the experience of communion, prayer and liturgy, missionary concern and volunteerism are integrated into the life experiences of students, their parents, their teachers and ancillary staff. In imitation of Christ, the Teacher of teachers, all Catholics in education should see their call to teach as a vocation. |
